How to Correctly
Dry Brush Your Body
(Brush at Whole Foods My look different)
The
skin is the largest organ in the human body and serves as a barrier from the
environment and as an elimination route for sweat and other toxins. Skin cells
are constantly shedding and skin brushing helps facilitate the process and thus
the removal of toxins, such as uric acid. Skin brushing also targets the blood
and lymphatic systems of the body. Lymph nodes and lymph vessels throughout the
body are part of the immune system and skin brushing stimulates these areas to
aid in optimal lymph and blood circulation and function. Dry brush prior to
bathing while your skin is still dry.
Step 1
Brush your feet and ankles, including the soles of your
feet. Brush upward in circular strokes toward your heart. Brushing toward your
heart facilitates better blood and lymph circulation through the body, which
doctors agree is important for better health.
Step 2
Brush in circular upward strokes on your calves and
thighs. Brush the back of your knees and inner thighs, where lymph nodes are
prominent, by applying concentrated and firm strokes.
Step 3
Brush your arms and hands in the same upward motion. Brush
under your arms with concentrated and firm strokes because lymph nodes are
present here as well.
Step 4
Brush up on your stomach and buttocks in a gentle motion.
Step 5
Brush your shoulders and back in long, upward strokes.
Step 6
Repeat these steps daily. Clean your brush with soap and
water once a week.
Tips and Warnings
Only
brush dry skin and always in motions toward your heart. Brushing your face is
optional because it is more sensitive and not a route for major blood and lymph
vessels. The face requires an extra soft brush or loofah. Avoid brushing the
more-sensitive skin around your breast. Although the order in which you brush
is up to you, it is typically easier to start at your feet and work up. Add
skin brushing to a regular hygiene routine, like brushing your teeth, to more
easily implement it into your life.
